Grand Duchy of Lithuania - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Since the Lublin Union in 1569, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was a sovereign State of Federation of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (having separate government, laws, army and treasury) until the annexation of the Federation by Imperial Russia, Prussia and Austria causing the partitioning of the state in 1795.
The chancery languages of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was Ruthenian (reffered to as Old Belarusian by Belarusians and as Chancery Slavic by Lithuanians) and Latin.
The Grand Duchy of Lithuania retained many rights in that federation (including separate government, treasury and army) until the May Constitution of Poland was passed in 1791.

Poles expected in 1812 that the duchy would be upgraded to the status of a kingdom and that during Napoleon's march on Russia, it would be joined with the liberated territories of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Poland's historic partner in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
The duchy was held in personal union by one of Napoleon's allies, King Frederick Augustus I of Saxony.
Similarly, the duchy's constitution refers to it in German as Herzogtum Warschau, and its coins bore the Latin inscription FRID·AVG·REX SAX·DVX VARSOV· (Fridericus Augustus, Rex Saxoniæ, Dux Varsoviæ; "Frederick Augustus, King of Saxony, Duke of Warsaw).

Duchy of Cornwall - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It should be noted, however, that the administrative machinery of Cornwall almost invariably refers to itself as a county (including, for example, Cornwall County Council itself) in the English language, although it can be argued that the administrative county and Duchy in this sense are separate, co-existing entities.
The Duchy was established in 1337 by Edward III of England for his son, Edward, Prince of Wales.
Both the Duchy of Cornwall and its counterpart, the Duchy of Lancashire, have special statutory rights not available to other estates held by peers: for example, the rules on Bona Vacantia operate in favour of the holder of the Duchy (as opposed to the Crown generally), and there are separate Attorneys General for the estates.

The only result of his conversion so far as the duchy was concerned was his erection of two Catholic churches, one in Brunswick, the other in Wolfenbuttel, to which according to his desire Franciscans were appointed.
