The Worker-Communist Party was founded by Mansoor Hekmat in 1991 as a split from the Communist Party of Iran.
The party suffered a major split in 2004, with the group representing the majority of the central committee splitting away, naming itself the Worker-Communist Party of Iran - Hekmatist, attracting the support of the Iraqi group.
