On Saturday, October 21, about 50 members of the <b>USSb> <b>Samuelb> B. Roberts (DE 413) Survivors' Association gathered in Washington, D.C. for their annual reunion.

Using a fictitious deadly earthquake scenario that left hundreds injured and homeless, Roberts and SNFL forces conducted a Crisis Response Operation (CRO) Feb. 1-5, acting as a temporary relief source before United Nations and national authorities could provide sustainable support.

Three ships of the United States Navy have borne the name <b>USSb>, in honor of <b>Samuelb> B. Roberts, a Navy coxswain who was killed evacuating Marines during the battle of Guadalcanal in 1942.

Currently, Coxswain Roberts' Navy Cross is proudly displayed in the Wardroom of the <b>USSb> <b>SAMUELb> B. ROBERTS (FFG 58), the third ship of the US Navy to bear his name.
Roberts served aboard the <b>USSb> CALIFORNIA (BB 44) and the <b>USSb> HEYWOOD (AD 12), before being transferred to the troop transport <b>USSb> BELLATRIX (AKA 20).
For his valor and courage in the face of the enemy fire, Coxswain <b>Samuelb> Booker Roberts was awarded posthumously the Navy Cross.
