 Document 20
Born in 1903 in Lithuania, a member of the CPLith from 1921, and a member of the CPG from 1922.
In 1928, he and the Trotskyist Frank from Vienna (originally also from Lithuania) offered their services to the CP Lithuania, but at that time Sobolevic’s friend, Glavatsky, was expelled from the CP Lithuania.
At party meetings, he spoke openly as a Trotskyist, defended the theory of permanent revolution and stood by the platform of the Russian opposition.

 Trotskyism and the Cuban Revolution
At the same time, the other Trotskyists were working incessantly, talking to the congress delegates in a number of meetings and speeches in order to beat back the Stalinist maneuver.
A third example is the actions of Trotskyists who were not members of the delegation.
If no one did, the case would be considered closed, and the congress could be considered to have confirmed that at no time had the Trotskyist delegation been attacked in word or in deed.

Durgan: Spanish Trotskyists and the POUM (Part 2)
After 1932 the attacks of the Trotskyists on Maurín’s party became less frequent and more moderate in tone.
However, the formal constitution of the OCE in Barcelona did not take place until September 1931.
The BOC’s decision in 1933 effectively to build a separate trade union federation would render later attempts to influence the Anarcho-Syndicalists that much more difficult.

 cubantrotskyism.net (v1.0) - Thesis, Chapter Seven
This denunciation of Trotskyism was followed up by the inevitable article from Blas Roca, the General Secretary of the old PCC and PSP in Cuba, which expanded on Fidel Castro's accusations.
While the order, apparently signed by the Minister of Labour himself, authorised the seizure of the POR(T)'s publications on the grounds that they constituted "counter-revolutionary propaganda",(32) the reasons for the intervention appear to be connected with the rise of pro-Moscow influence in the Revolution.
The Cuban Revolution in 1959 acted as catalyst for a round of splits and fusions in the international Trotskyist movement.

A Letter to Trotskyists Throughout the World
The Transitional Program, which remains the keystone of today's program of the world Trotskyist movement, was written by Trotsky in collaboration with the leaders of the SWP and at his request was submitted by them for adoption at the founding Congress.
This act proved decisive in breaching the isolation imposed by the Stalinist bureaucracy on Trotsky and in laying the foundation for the Fourth International.
After the murder of Trotsky by an agent of Stalin's secret police, the SWP took the lead in defending and advocating his teachings.

How Trotsky and the Trotskyists Confronted the Second World War, Pierre Broué
Other documentation on the collapse of the leading organs of the movement at the start of the war occurs in 'Trotsky in 1939-1940: The IEC Does Not Exist', in Spartacist, nos 43-44, Summer 1989, pp28-31.
Did not the extraordinary weakness of the SWP's resolution of November 1943 result in part from this same `propagandist' isolation?
We cannot undertake here a wide-ranging study of the policies of the Trotskyists during the war, or compare them with the policies which Trotsky outlined on the eve of his death and of which his comrades were generally unaware at the time.

The "post-Kirov" trials of 1934—35 were unable to establish ties leading from the "Zinovievists" to the "Trotskyists," let alone to Trotsky himself.
As Yezhov declared at the February-March Plenum of the Central Committee in 1937, "the person responsible for opening the case (of the "Trotsky-Zinoviev Center") was essentially Comrade Stalin, who, upon receiving...

Trotskyism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the run-off election, the LCR called for a vote for Chirac, the conservative politician, while many other Trotskyists called for a working-class abstention from the vote, since it only provided voters with a choice between the right-wing Chirac and the extreme right Le Pen.
According to the ICFI, the ISFI's prognosis meant that there was no point in building Trotskyist parties if they were going to be resigned to centuries of Stalin-style deformed workers states anyway.
The Communist Parties then began to support capitalist governments, such as the CPUSA which to this day advocates a vote for the Democratic Party.

In addition, Christopher Hitchens, another former Trotskyist, serves the White House as an "ad hoc consultant." Finally, Wolfowitz in particular worked with some former Trotskyists during the early 1970s, in the offices of Senator Henry Jackson.
This might hurt the feelings of Trotskyists past and present, but Trotskyism has never been influential in the United States.

In Defence of Marxism - The Trotskyists in Stalin's concentration camps - An eyewitness account of the strike at Vorkuta
Affairs relating to political opposition to the regime must not be judged by special NKVD tribunals, but in public judicial assemblies.
Among the “Trotskyists” were also found partisans of the “Right wing,” that is to say of Rykov and of Bukharin, as well as followers of Shiiapnikov and his “Workers’ Opposition” platform.
Certain Trotskyists, including Vladimir Ivanov, Kossior, and Trotsky’s son, Sergei Sedov, a modest and likeable youth, who had imprudently refused to follow his father into exile in 1928, were taken in a special convoy to Moscow.

The Programmatic Principles of the Faction for the Trotskyist International
The Transitional Program, adopted as the central document of the Founding Congress of the Fourth International in 1938, constitutes Trotskyism's fundamental program of action.
In this sense, the workers' government is only realizable as a government of the Trotskyist party or a government which is led by the Trotskyist party.
Consistent Trotskyists favor the fullest democracy within the workers' state.

How the Trots Led the Australian Labor Party Up the Free-Trade Path
However, that is on the basis of a narrow definintion of Trotskyism, which places Trotsky above Lenin as supreme leader.
After the 1984 federal election, Peter Garrett and Senator Jo Vallentine quit the Nuclear Disarmament Party because, they said, members of the (Trotskyist) Democratic Socialist Party were taking it over.
This does not imply that individual Trotskyists are deceivers, but it would imply that some of the leaders may be.

The trial of Pyatakov and the Trotskyists
Investigations in Siberia led to the arrest of Pyatakov,  an old Trotskyist,  assistant to Ordzhonikidze,  Commissar of Heavy Industry since 1932.
In January 1937, the trial of Pyatakov,  Radek  and other old Trotskyists  was held; they admitted their clandestine activities.
Close to Stalin, Ordzhonikidze  had followed a policy of using and re-educating bourgeois specialists.

 Document 32
Telegram from Lithuania about work being done to liquidate Trotskyism.
Although there is an understanding among party members that the Trotskyists and rotten liberals can not be party members, one notes doubts [among comrades] about how the Trotskyists managed to sink to fascism, and why they confessed at the trial the way they did.
The struggle against Trotskyists, especially after the trials started, has been especially accentuated in the press and in general during the whole six-month period.

John Lennon Funded Terrorists and Trotskyists
The 10 packages of documents, which are held at Washington's FBI headquarters, are believed to expose how Lennon gave money to the Irish Republican Army before its split between the Official and Provisional wings.
They also show that he paid £46,000 to left-wing groups including the Trotskyist Workers' Revolutionary party (WRP) and Red Mole, a Marxist magazine edited by Tariq Ali, the student protest leader.
Some of the information came from an MI5 "deep throat" inside the WRP who passed on details of Lennon's donations to the Americans and, bizarrely, a handwritten transcript of the lyrics to Lennon's song Working Class Hero, which he is thought to have sent to the WRP as a gift.

Thanksgiving with ex-Trotskyists (by L. Proyect)
Don't ever argue theology with him, Nancy warned, he's more stubborn than a Trotskyist.
Not only did Jon retain the ties of an old worshipper to the party, his closest political co-thinker in the area had remained an at-large member of the party.
This man was always looking for the pure faith and hated apostasy.

In addition to his prolific activity as an editor and writer for the Trotskyist and other leftist press, Mandel has published several volumes of political essays.
During the 1950s and 1960s, when the Trotskyists operated within the Belgian Socialist Party, Mandel worked in the Economic Studies Commission of the Belgian Trade Union Federation, writing a report on economic concentration.

A Note on British Trotskyists and Spain
As it was there was some disquiet in the Labour Party about the communists' role in the war, though loyalty to the Republic generally overrode it.
Yet Trotskyists drew encouragement from the regroupment of revolutionary socialists through the Socialist Party and the Friends of Durrutti: a new party might be born out of this.
The POUM was not a Trotskyist party any more than the ILP.

 The Anti-Colonial Movement in Vietnam
He was born outside of Saigon in 1913, went to work in 1927, and in 1932 became involved in anti-colonial, and ultimately Trotskyist politics.
The Viet Minh resistance movement, however, had seized local government in much of the country, and was maneuvering for position against all comers.
This period saw a phase of electoral activity in which both Stalinists and Trotskyists won seats on the Saigon city council, a powerless body which nonetheless afforded them a certain public tribunal, while obliging them to tone down their politics.

The Crisis of the Fourth International and the Tasks of Consistent Trotskyists
The International Secretariat, under the leadership of the Socialist Workers Party of the United States (SWP/US), was able only partially to fulfill its responsibilities of political and organizational leadership of the international Trotskyist movement.
They have subordinated or denied the role of Trotskyist parties as the necessary expression of the political independence of the working class, in favor of adaptation to these nonproletarian and nonrevolutionary forces.
It can and must be politically regenerated and organizationally reconstructed.

Poland 1981: Acid Test for Trotskyists - Theses on Solidarnosc
However, the defense of the democratic rights of the workers to strike and assemble is subordinate to the defense of collectivized property.
The conduct of the leadership of Solidarnosc in preparation for the September 1981 Congress indicated its pro-capitalist character.
We support the right to assemble and strike by workers in the deformed and degenerated workers states as preconditions for the political revolution because this would allow the Trotskyist vanguard to intervene and mobilize the workers against the bureaucracy in the direction of the political revolution.

 Police attack Sri Lankan Trotskyists
The Trotskyists have called for the formation of independent action committees and workers defense guards to protect the democratic rights of the masses against the Civil Defense committees.
Twelve members of the Revolutionary Communist League (RCL), the Sri Lankan Trotskyist party, were arrested by police on November 13 in Bandarawela, in Sri Lanka's central highlands.
It has explained that the war is part of an attack on the democratic rights and living conditions of workers and peasants throughout the island.

CHNN, No 8, July 2000: Thesis Reports
[3] has concluded that although the Cuban Trotskyists in the early 1930s constituted a revolutionary force, they were at the same time divisionists, sectarians and dogmatists who contributed to the division and defeat of the revolutionary movement.
Chapter Seven examines the Trotskyists' programmatic differences with the government of the, at least nominally, communist Cuban government in the 1960s which led to the Trotskyist party's subsequent suppression.
Particular attention is given to their development during the so-called Revolution of the 1930s when the PBL, with approximately 800 members, constituted one of the largest and most influential Trotskyist parties in the world.

 entryism: Information From Answers.com
This is the classical version of entryism advocated by Leon Trotsky in his essays on "the French Turn" in which Trotskyists entered the youth wing of the French Socialist Party (the SFIO) for a brief period in the 1930s.
Members of Socialist Action, a small Trotskyist group, play a leading role in the New Democratic Party Socialist Caucus, a small faction on the left wing of that social democratic party, and advocate that their members join and engage with the NDP.
In France, Trotskyist organizations, most notably the Parti des Travailleurs, have successfully infiltrated trade unions and attempted to infiltrate mainstream left-wing parties.

We are willing to judge them by their own Marxist/Leninist/ Trotskyist standards.
Wilson, an ex Trotskyist, sets his novel in the late 60's at the height of the New Left led anti-Vietnam war movement.
But supposedly the American Trotskyist movement centered around James Cannon and later James Robertson was immune from such quackery.

Spartacist League Trotskyists on China: a Maoist Review
This is just one more reason why Trotskyism enjoys no support in the Third World and has never achieved a successful revolution anywhere.
This is characteristic of Trotskyism: the belief that revolution can only succeed in advanced industrial countries.
This long article goes into most of the Trotskyist arguments against Maoism and so it is a useful basis for taking on the debate between Trotskyism and Maoism.

He became a young Trotskyist around 1937 and joined Max Shachtman's Workers Party (WP) when it split from the Socialist Workers party in 1940.
However, Kristol's son, William, now editor of the influential Weekly Standard, was never on the Far Left, let alone associated with Trotskyism.
The most notable, National Review supporters Max Eastman and James Burnham, were neither Jewish nor neoconservative, although they advocated a Bush-like foreign policy.

 Guardian Trotskyists spike French Socialists
The French Socialist party responded with gloom yesterday to the news that the country's two fringe Trotskyist parties were uniting to create a troublesome extreme left pact in time for next year's regional and European elections.
The response from the right wing yesterday was gleeful; candidates are hopeful that the far-left alliance will cause as much trouble to the left as the National Front has caused to them in the past 20 years.
The alliance between Lutte Ouvri& (Workers' Struggle) and the Communist Revolutionary League (LCR) threatens to worsen the the deeply demoralised Socialists' prospects.

 Trotskyists vs. right to self-determination - www.communistvoice.org
Most Trotskyists groups felt that since the Soviet Union was some kind of workers' state or socialist, the Soviet Union's war on the Afghani people was progressive.
Therefore, it is not as surprising as it might seem that in this case, the IS too has become nostalgic about the Yugoslav regime and takes positions on the war that are not so different than the Trotskyists who portrayed the state-capitalist regimes as workers' states.
Some, like the Spartacist League, considered Yugoslavia a workers' state even under Milosevic until the time various nationalities split off to form their own states.

Hello to All That - The irony behind the demise of the Partisan Review. By Sam Tanenhaus
Last fall, there was a memorial service in Manhattan for William Phillips, who died in September at age 94.
But for a quarter-century now, the most cogent oppositionist thinking has come from the right, thanks to the likes of Irving Kristol and more recently Christopher Hitchens, one-time Trotskyists who still know a good revolution when they see it.

The meeting was attended by IWP supporters, as well as French-speaking and immigrant workers and students met by the IWP in the course its campaign against both Quebec separatism and Canadian nationalism.
The speakers explained the alternative for the working class to the "Yes" and "No" campaigns of the capitalists.

Monthly Review October 2000 Paul Buhle
This shift, which James had already predicted in a way—and he was bitterly denounced by his fellow Trotskyists for his supposed apotheosis of "spontaneity"—appears to have changed the prospects for the left irrevocably.
To be "radical" now meant something different, as early Monthly Review readers recognized, and organizational styles had fallen badly behind.
The demonstrations at the World Trade Organization meetings in Seattle in late 1999 provides fresh evidence not so much of "spontaneity" as decentralization; cross-movement alliances (now, at last, including labor again); and a heavy emphasis upon a public cultural presentation of the issues.

Slander of Trotskyists a danger to Russian left
“The overthrow of the government in Ukraine was planned by four ideological Trotskyists representing the International Communist League”, Vremya stated in its 53-second clip.
So when the television news program Vremya, which can be seen throughout most of Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, reported on the evening of April 1 that four foreign Trotskyists with 50 kilos of agitational literature had been banned from Ukraine for plotting the overthrow of the Ukrainian government, that was a joke, right?
For once, an improbable story put to air on April 1 was totally serious, and for left-wing opponents of the governments in Russia and Ukraine, thoroughly menacing.

Beginning amongst the "permanent revolution" of secular, Jewish Trotskyists in the United States, the neoconservative philosophy combines the Machiavellian views of Leo Strauss with the paranoia of Thomas Hobbes to create a ruthless political philosophy that practically worships power.
The 1990s saw the true crucible of modern neoconservative thinking, as their concerns were re-framed from those of hardened "Cold Warriors" to the moral obligation to enforce a Pax Americana.
