Socialist Labour Party (UK) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The party was formed as a left-wing splinter in reaction to Tony Blair's re-positioning of the British Labour Party to the centre ground of politics.
At the 2001 general election the party took about 3% of the vote in seats it stood in.
It did not contest the 2004 European Elections; its candidate for the Leicester South by-election gained less than 1% of the vote.

 The Socialist Labour Party
The decision to form the Socialist Labour Party is not merely an act of political irresponsibility; beneath Scargill’s leftist rhetoric and notwithstanding his subjective militancy, it is an act of political cowardice.
For the SLP to call on Labour Party members and trade unionists to abandon the struggle against Blair inside the party, to argue that the unions should assist Blair by voluntarily disaffiliating from Labour – this would be the height of political idiocy.
But the central plank in his thesis that a fundamental change has taken place in the character of the Labour Party is the decision, at the special conference in April 1995, to junk the commitment to common ownership embodied in the old Clause IV of the party constitution.

The Socialist Labour Party (SLP) held its third (that is, if we exclude the Special Congress held in Manchester, 14 November 1998) Congress on the weekend of 6/7 November 1999 in London’s Conway Hall.
The Congress also re-elected Frank Cave as the Party President, Arthur Scargill as General Secretary, and elected Linda Muir as the Vice-President.

 The Socialist Labour Party
This splintering of "Old Labour" types from the party is basically the same phenomenon that led to the formation of the SLP before the election – its social basis is the enormous bitterness of those advanced layers of the class who have been abandoned by Blair.
There is a very good reason for this: it is because, until the SLP decisively crossed the Rubicon and consolidated on a reformist, anti-communist basis at the December 1997 Congress, as supporters of the SLP project we were politically opposed to public attacks on this amorphous, new and politically unformed organisation.
Our candidate Alan Gibson came second out of four possibles in the election for SLP Vice-President, behind Patrick Sikorski, and for one brief moment, when Sikorski temporarily withdrew his nomination in protest at the deletion of the SLP’s Black Section from the constitution, in theory could have been elected.

Your View 21 - Arthur Scargill and the end of a fantasy
In the general election of 1997 the SLP stood 64 candidates (including one that Scargill declared 'voided' in the middle of the campaign!).
In this he was aided and abetted by his unpaid Fisc courtiers, who regarded Scargill, the militant leader, as someone who would appeal to the mass of workers over the heads of the revolutionary left to join his "party of recomposition".
It was only in October 1995, when Tony Blair effortlessly saw off attempts to reinstate the party's 'socialist' clause four, that Scargill finally gave up on Labour.
