Saskatchewan farmers organized under the National Progressive Party, and in 1921 the party won 15 of the province's 16 seats in the federal House of Commons.
Saskatchewan ranks fifth in size among the provinces.

The population of Moose Jaw grew from 1,500 to 14,000 and Regina grew from 2,300 to 30,000.
It is speculated that Henry Kelsey of the Hudson's Bay Company was the first white man to stand on the banks of the South Saskatchewan River.
A year later, Professor Henry Yule Hind was commissioned to explore the Assiniboine and South Saskatchewan River Valleys.

Upon his return to York Factory, he reported that he had met "Montreal pedlars," (independent Montreal-based fur traders) at every turn, and warned his superiors that the venerable Hudson's Bay Company was in danger of losing the competition with the aggressive Montreal traders.
Not to be outdone, Hudson Bay Company senior officer William Tomison responded by constructing Buckingham House, high on the hill above his rival.
His first child was born in 1802 at Rocky Mountain House, and in 1807, the upstream post served as the launching pad for his historic crossing through Howse Pass to the Columbia River.

Access to the river by water is also possible from the north end of Lac La Loche across the bay but this requires the strenuous, 19 km trek in the steps of the voyageurs over the Methye Portage.

In 1741, after a hiatus of 50 years, La Verendrye and his sons explored the Saskatchewan River.
Other points of historic interest include the old Hudson's Bay Company gunpowder house, which is also in the park, a 1890's school building and the local museum.
