The current premier of Saskatchewan is New Democrat Lorne Calvert, whose government was re-elected in the 2003 election with a slim majority -- the NDP won 30 seats in the 58-seat Legislative Assembly, while the Saskatchewan Party won the remaining 28 seats.
Saskatchewan has the same form of government as the other Canadian provinces with a premier, legislature, and lieutenant-governor, who is the representative of the Crown.
The Saskatchewan Liberal Party was the province's main centrist party for several decades early in Saskatchewan's existence, ruling from 1905–29 and from 1934–44.

In 1996, 18.2 percent of the 52,320 immigrants living in Saskatchewan had come from the United Kingdom, 13.8 percent from the United States, 6.1 percent from Germany, 5.6 percent from Poland, and 5.4 percent from China.
As a result, in many areas of Saskatchewan and other western provinces, voters have recently elected representatives who favor increased power for the provinces and decreased power for the federal government.

A short time ago the Government of Saskatchewan authorized the use of Catholic readers for the Catholic separate schools of that province.
The new inhabitants soon clamoured for a larger share of influence in the territorial government than had previously been enjoyed by the people, and their agitation resulted in the Federal Parliament granting the territories, in the course of 1888, a legislative assembly with a correspondingly larger degree of autonomy.
The first white man to set foot in what is now the Province of Saskatchewan, was Henry Kelsey, a boy in the employ of the Hudson Bay Company traders.

On September 26, 1981, the Governor General approved the new-pattern flag of the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan.
The sheaves, reduced to three in number, were incorporated into Saskatchewan's arms on August 25, 1906, shortly after the province was created on September 1, 1905.
The Moose Jaw flag was designed by Professor Atkinson, and adopted by City Council on October 24, 1966.
