The term terrorism is largely synonymous with "politicalb> violence," and refers to a strategy of using coordinated attacks that typically fall outside the time, manner of conduct, and place commonly understood as representing the bounds of conventional warfare.
The European Union includes in its 2002 definition of "terrorism" the aim of "destabilising or destroying the fundamental politicalb>, constitutional, economic or social structures of a country." [4]
These were the first acts of "republican terrorism", which became a recurrent feature of British history, and these Fenians were the precursor of the Irish Republican Army.
