Philip John Schuyler (November 10, 1733 – November 18, 1804) was a general in the American Revolution and a United States Senator from New York.
Schuyler was elected to the Continental Congress in 1775, and served until he was appointed a Major General of the Continental Army in June.
Philip was born at Albany, New York on November 20, 1733 to a wealthy colonial family.

In spite of chronic illness, Schuyler acquiesced in the action of congress, and continued in his efforts to aid Gates and in preparing defenses to meet Burgoyne, whose invasion was confidently expected.
Gates was not satisfied with the action of congress and began to intrigue for the removal of Schuyler, who, on 14 September, 1776, formally offered his resignation, but congress declared that it could not dispense with his service, and its president, John Hancock, requested him to continue in command.
