Topic: Nicol Stephen

All this biography is couched in marvellous Nicol wit, as befits a three-time winner of the Stephen Leacock medal for humour.
In the last quarter of the book, the humour grows much darker, as Nicol copes with aging, rejection, marriage breakup, and the horrors of seeing a play of his performed, or butchered, in New York.
"There is a whole new context of humour now which seems to be a bit on the blue side," says the 78-year-old three-time winner of the Stephen Leacock award for humour.

 Mark Ruskell MSP - News
In a Parliament debate on Fife rail services Liberal Democrat transport minister Nicol Stephen came in for strong criticism from Mid Scotland and Fife MSP, Mark Ruskell, over the Executive's contradictory and incoherent transport policies, which continue to prioritise expensive roads and motorways, at the expense of the environment and improvements to public transport.
Speaking after the debate Mark Ruskell expressed his disappointment at Nicol Stephen's failure to respond to the issues he had raised.
All politicians in Fife must choose whether to support motorways, such as the M74, and a second Forth road bridge--which would be a vast waste of money that will only increase congestion and generate more climate wrecking pollution.

The Martín de León Family 2
Nicolás Carabajal could not have been the father of José María, who was a lad of twelve or thirteen years, living in the family of his widowed mother at San Antonio when he won the friendship of Stephen F. Austin and later of Littleberry Hawkins during the winter of 1822-1823.
The writer had supposed that José María was a son of Nicolás Carabajal, who was granted land in the Refugio area by the ayuntamiento of Goliad before the General Colonization Law of Coahuila and Texas was in effect.
This was one of the applications left unfinished because of the sudden departure of José Jesús Vidaurri, commissioner to extend titles, in the autumn of 1834.

She has written to Nicol Stephen, Minister of Transport, to welcome the administration’s more sympathetic stance on the issue whilst re-affirming the clear wish of the Council that the Skye Bridge tolls should be abolished at the earliest opportunity.
The disparity widens further because the Executive already reimburses the Bridge company approximately £1 million per annum to compensate for the frozen tariffs, and that position has been exacerbated further by the introduction of VAT charges on tolls during the last year.
He said the ferry service had proved extremely popular and a major boost to the local economies of Sleat in Skye and West Lochaber and should be retained no matter the outcome of the Skye Bridge toll debate.
