Mark Latham - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mark William Latham (born 28 February 1961), an Australian politician, was Leader of the Federal Parliamentary Australian Labor Party and Leader of the Opposition from December 2003 to January 2005.
In the October 2004 federal election, Latham was defeated by the incumbent Prime Minister, John Howard.
With both Latham and Deputy Leader Jenny Macklin on leave, the position of Acting Opposition Leader was held by Senator Chris Evans, who issued statements in the aftermath of the tsunami.

The revenge of Mark Latham Samizdata.net
Of course Mr Latham has a more lower class manner than (leading Public School and Oxford University educated) Mr Blair, and a tendancy to commit acts of violence (whereas Mr Blair gets other people to commit acts of violence on his behalf), but they are basically the same.
At first, all goes well; Latham certainly is different to the regular run of the mill politician, and he has long serving Prime Minister John Howard caught on the hop.
It must be said that part of Latham's rapid rise was that he was a talented politician in a deeply untalented party.

 Mark Latham: Labor’s loner
Mark Latham cut a sad and lonely figure in a run-down park near his electoral office where he stood alone and delivered a curt and pointed resignation statement to the assembled media pack before turning his back and walking away from a lifetime in politics.
Indeed, in his final days as leader —as his health crumbled under the burden of pancreatitis — Latham failed to confide with even his closest political friends and advisers about the illness or consult with them about quitting the leadership.
And the ALP's electoral fate was ultimately sealed by the Jakarta bombing — which put homeland security on the top of the political agenda, The party's failure to counter the Coalition’s successful attack on its interest rate history during the Federal election campaign further spooked voters.

His days with the council matter now because they are the one time Latham — who has never been a minister — has had a chance to run anything.
When he was mayor, he thought it necessary to declare that only seven of western Sydney& 28 federal and state members of parliament were any good.
Every mayor before him wore red robes and ceremonial chains, but Latham banished them as anachronistic and they now lie, forgotten, in the city museum.

As a political act that veers from somber to slapstick, earthy to edgy, the new leader could fill all the channels on a satellite television network with his mix of messages.
In government, Labor has promised to hold Cabinet meetings in community settings so ministers and their advisers stay in touch with the electorate.
Even Coalition voters seem to approve of the way he is doing his job.

 Mark Latham - Uncyclopedia
Unfortunately, the Manhattan Project, as it was known, ended in failure as the combined dullness of his genetics proved too boring for anyone to be able to even look at him without falling asleep.
Eventually, during the Constitutional Crisis of 1997 (when Deputy Prime Minister Jeff Jarrett failed to drown three fat children during his term of office - as specified in Section 51-28 of the Commonwealth Constitution), Latham was promoted from Prviate 4th-Class to Superior General and very illegally declared leader of Australia.
Consequently, Latham became a loser in High School, as he was the only person left awake in his classroom.
