At present in Nova Scotia, there are references to the Leader of the Opposition or the Leader of the Official Opposition in the Auditor General Act, the Elections Act, the House of Assembly Act, the Members' Retiring Allowances Act and the Public Service Act.
In the fifth session, the Liberal leader was recognized as the leader of the opposition but continued to share the allowance with the CCF leader.
Traditionally in Nova Scotia, the Speaker has recognized as the Leader of the Opposition the leader of the opposition party having the most seats in the House of Assembly.
