 CONTRADICTIONS IN THE IMPERIALIST SYSTEM
In the imperialist countries, the proletariat must conjoin with the nonproletarian masses to confront the deteriorating economic and social conditions and the political threats of chauvinism, fascism and racism and prepare for the overthrow of the monopoly bourgeoisie.
On the way to the first interimperialist war, the monopoly bourgeoisie of the various imperialist countries accelerated the international flow of investments and trade, the concentration of capital and the use of state monopoly capitalism to aid private monopoly capital.
It generated an unprecedentedly intense class struggle between the monopoly bourgeoisie and the proletariat in imperialist countries, fierce interimperialist contradictions and renewed war preparations, the rise of fascism and the invigoration of national liberation movements in colonies and semicolonies.

International Anti-Imperialist Conference at Dakar, 1997
It is thus that, in the United States of America, imperialist reaction is attacking the rights and social gains of the Black nation in the Black Belt and the Black national minorities in the whole country.
This was the case in Rwanda, where the third genocide of this century was perpetrated; it is the case in Algeria, where the fundamentalists are terrorizing the working class and the working people opposed to their medieval objectives.
It appeals to the internationalist forces of Europe, America, Asia and Oceania, to support the cause of the liberation of the Black nations, of the Black race.

In addressing the General Assembly, the leaders of various imperialist states attacked the principle of state sovereignty.
For example, French Prime Minister Lionel Jospin asserted that "we must defend the principle of intervention by the international community, under U.N. auspices, to bring relief to the victims," and that the U.N. mission must be extended to "defending human dignity within each state and where necessary, as the Charter permits, against states....

This in turn led to the delegitimation of political institutions, and the atrophy of the principles of citizenship and deliberative consensus that had been the heart of the democratic political enterprise.
Accordingly the amenability of European populations to totalitarian ideas was the consequence of a series of pathologies that had eroded the public or political realm as a space of liberty and freedom.
These pathologies included the expansionism of imperialist capital with its administrative management of colonial suppression, and the usurpation of the state by the bourgeoisie as an instrument by which to further its own sectional interests.

The aim of the Second Imperialist War is similar to that of the First Imperialist War.

A portion of the imperialist states, the fascist states of Germany, Italy, and Japan, were waging wars of aggression like mad dogs, violating the interests of all small and weak peoples, violating the interests of all democratic countries, and unleashing a fascist menace within each democratic country.

This has led many to accuse the Soviet Union of hypocrisy, and it is often used as an argument for the idea that the Soviet Union did not, in fact, follow Marxist principles.
War is generally seen as a method of furthering imperialist interests, which is why Marxists generally see opposition to 'capitalist wars' as an integral part of anti-imperialism (as important as supporting national liberation movments, for example).
The Soviet Union, which claimed to follow Marxism, also claimed to be the foremost enemy of imperialism and supported many independence movements throughout the Third World.

It is usually recognized that, whatever the case may have been with Germany, Japan, etc., the U.S. economic boom after World War II was due to the great expansion of the U.S. economic empire around the world.

But this requires, on occasion, extraordinary means in order to bring recalcitrant state back into conformity with the market and with the international hierarchy of power with the United States at its apex.
Ironically, Gallagher and Robinson distinguished their approach from the classic accounts of John Hobson (in his 1902 "Imperialism: A Study") and Lenin (in his 1916 "Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism") by associating both Hobson's and Lenin's views with a narrower spectrum of cases involving formal control or colonialism.
By identifying the last quarter of the nineteenth century, when colonial annexations were at their height, as a qualitatively new stage of capitalism -- the monopoly or imperialist stage -- Lenin in particular, these authors argued, had come to associate imperialism with formal rather than informal control.

Imperialism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The adjectival form "imperialist" dates back to the 17th century, but until the late 19th century it meant an adherent of an emperor or of an imperial form of government.
However, it was soon also used in retrospect to describe the policies of the Roman Empire.
One thing to note in some allegedly imperialistic countries is the "melting" bettween the name -- and in many times, the sense of national identity -- of the titular nation and the other territories controlled by this nation including the titular nation itself.
