Henry VIII (28 June 1491 – 28 January 1547) was King of England and Lord of Ireland (later King of Ireland) from 22 April 1509 until his death.
Henry entered into an alliance with Charles V through the Treaty of Bruges, and Francis I was defeated by Charles' imperial armies at the Battle of Pavia in February 1525.
The Ecclesiastical Appointments Act 1534 required the clergy to elect Bishops nominated by the Sovereign.

The first of Henry's concerns on attaining the monarchy was the question of establishing the strength and supremacy of his rule.

Henry VIII (June 28, 1491- January 28, 1547) was King of England from April 22 (crowned on June 24), 1509 until his death on January 28, 1547.
While he was still legally married to Catherine of Aragon he married Anne Boleyn in secrete on January 25, 1533 (his marriage to Catherine had to be annuled by a special act of Parliament on May 23 of the same year).
This became final with the passing of the Act of Supremacy 1536.

Henry was formally promised in marriage to Katharine on 23 June 1503; the treaty stated that he would marry Katharine on his fifteenth birthday, 28 June 1505, and that her parents send over 100,000 crowns worth of plate and jewels in addition to the dowry she had given when married to Prince Arthur.
