 Geoff Hoon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Geoff Hoon was born in Derby, Derbyshire, the son of a railwayman, and was educated at Nottingham High School and Jesus College, Cambridge where he was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in law in 1976, followed by a master's degree.
Hoon was elected as a Member of the European Parliament for Derbyshire in 1984 and served in Brussels and Strasbourg for ten years.
Hoon held the seat with a majority of 12,987 and has remained the MP there since, making his maiden speech on May 20, 1992.

Before entering Parliament, Mr Hoon lectured in law at Leeds University from 1976 to 1982, and was Visiting Professor of Law at the University of Louisville, Kentucky, in 1979 and 1980.
Geoff Hoon became Lord Privy Seal and Leader of the House of Commons in May 2005.
Mr Hoon served previously in the Lord Chancellor's Department as Parliamentary Secretary from May 1997, and was promoted to Minister of State there in July 1998.
