A representative must be at least 21 years of age, must be a resident of the district in which he or she will serve, and must be a resident of Florida for at least two years before being qualified to run for election.
The Speaker of the House is elected by his or her fellow representatives for a two-year term.
Representatives are elected to two-year terms during even-numbered years.

Florida Department of State (June 1998) which ruled that Florida could not prevent a man convicted of a felony in Connecticut, where his civil rights had not been lost, from exercising his civil rights.
On December 8, the Florida Supreme Court, by a 4 to 3 vote, ordered a manual recount of disputed ballots in all Florida counties in which such a recount was not already complete.
