Plurality voting system - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The first past the post election system is used in the Republic of China on Taiwan for executive offices such as county magistrates, mayors, and the president, but not for legislative seats which used the single non-transferable vote system.
The election of a Member of Parliament in the UK is a well known example of the First Past the Post electoral system.
In single winner plurality voting, each voter is allowed to vote for one candidate, and the winner of the election is whichever candidate represents a plurality of voters by receiving the largest number of votes.

Those candidates who obtain the threshold during the first stage of counting are declared elected and any votes they have received in excess of the threshold are redistributed according to the second choices as marked.

Indeed, for some time, this distortive tendency in FPTP was said to have law- like status, referred to as the 'cube law' on how votes are translated into seats.
Just short of 85 per cent of voters rejected the FPTP system and two- thirds of voters (65 per cent) were in favour of the two-vote system (Harris, 1992).
