The level of public sentiment in Romania is running strongly in favor of the ruling elite fulfilling its legal commitments and reform promises, but--proving perhaps that the people don't trust their judiciary, or leaders, to adhere to the rule of law--the most persuasive voices have been directed abroad.

[Baroness Nicholson] -The inevitable prerequisite is and must be the essential requirement to resolve the nuclear issue.
Prior to the Islamic Republic, women were not stoned to death, women were not flogged, women had much more protected family rights than now, the job restrictions that Baroness Nicholson has so casually mentioned did not exist prior to 1979.
[Baroness Nicholson] - women's rights in Iran are far more developed than elsewhere in the region, with education for all and jobs, up to and including the Vice-President of the State, open to all.

 Better Health Critical to Afghan Future, WHO Envoy Says
The Commission on Macroeconomics and Health, which was chaired by Harvard Professor Jeffrey Sachs and included several former finance ministers and Nobel price winners, concluded that scaled-up investments in health will give a six-fold economic return in the form of increased economic growth.
Speaking to reporters in Brussels, Baroness Nicholson emphasized that six million Afghans have very little or no access to medical care, that every day 45 women die of pregnancy related causes, resulting in more than 16,000 deaths each year, and that one-fourth of Afghan children do not live to celebrate their fifth birthdays.
Baroness Nicholson explained that WHO has been calling for an immediate $60 million to assist the newly formed Afghan Ministry of Health to design and implement key public health programs including immunizations, diarrhoeal disease, tuberculosis, malaria control and safe motherhood.
