 Duncan McArthur
Duncan McArthur was born in Dutchess County, New York on June 14, 1772.
In 1808, McArthur was named as the successor to General Massie and elected by the legislature as Major General in the Ohio Militia.
In 1826, McArthur was again sent to the Ohio House of Representatives, and in 1829 again sent to the Ohio Senate.

McArthur's first important public office was that of representative from Ross County in the Ohio General Assembly, to which he was elected in the fall of 1804.
In 1830, after resigning his seat in the state senate, McArthur became a candidate for governor on the National Republican ticket.
After the death of Duncan's mother when he was three, his father remarried and, in 1780, moved his family to western Pennsylvania.

Duncan McArthur, Ohio's eleventh governor, was born in New York on January 14, 1772.
McArthur was able to make his fortune in land speculation in the Northwest Territory and then the new state of Ohio, using some of his money to build an elaborate home on his estate near Chillicothe.
He was elected to the Ohio Senate and, in 1809, became Speaker of the Senate.

After the war McArthur served several terms in the state legislature and was elected to the United States Congress.
Duncan announced his intention to "shoulder his firelock and march in the ranks." He enlisted as a private, and most of the militia followed his example.
At the outbreak of the War of 1812 Duncan McArthur was major general of the state militia.

Arthur McArthur, Sr., was born January 14, 1790, the ninth of eleven children of John McArthur (1745-1816), a native of Perth, Scotland, and the third settler of the town of Limington, and Mary Miller McArthur (1753-1835).
He completed his legal studies with Cyrus King, half-brother of the first governor of Maine, at Saco in 1815.
Charles, a Bowdoin non-graduate (Class of 1863) travelled to California as a young man. He later married and practiced law in Kansas and Missouri.

I, Daniel D. McArthur, was born on the 8th of April 1820, in the town of Holland, Erie County, New York, and received the gospel of Christ when I was twelve years old (in my heart).
When I was 16 years old, I emigrated with my parents to Kirtland, a gathering place for saints, in the state of Ohio, Geoga County, and left Kirtland in June 1838 with my parents and took up our journey for the state of Missouri.

Archibald signed his warrant as a tidewaiter on 3 September 1794, his salary was 5 pounds a quarter paid at the end of the period to ensure his faithfulness to his employer.
The second son of Alexander McNuier and Catherine ferguson, Archibald, married Sarah McArthur, daughter of Duncan McArthur and Catherine McKenzie, of whom more later.
We don't know anything of Archibalds life in Inveraray except that three children were born there, the latest, Duncan, in 1789.

Born to Scottish immigrants in Dutchess County, New York, McArthur grew up in western Pennsylvania and later moved to Kentucky, where he was employed as an Indian ranger.
United States House of Representatives before winning election to the governorship in 1830.
He was elected to the United States House of Representatives while serving in the militia during the War of 1812, but never qualified for office, preferring to continue serving in the military.

My Grandmother, may she rest in peace, was one Helen Campbell.
We're sending it on to our family in Tennessee and Georgia.
The only other information I have is that I know my grandfather attended Sabbath (Sunday school) as he was given a gaelic bible endorsed by Duncan MacLean the parish minister of Bunessan Parish church on 23rd july 1898.

John Duncan McArthur died on January 10, 1925 at the age of 74, never having the opportunity to enjoy the fruits of his labour, but leaving half a century of achievements for others to enjoy.
McArthur was born in Lancaster Glengarry County, Ontario on June 25th, 1854 and he came west 25 years later.
McArthur sold his farm and timber limits around Lac du Bonnet to his nephew, Alexander McIntosh, who in turn, turned it over to his son, Ramsay McIntosh.

 Duncan McArthur
As a soldier, he helped negotiate the Treaty of the Rapids Miami of Lake Erie, which ceded all remaining Native American territory in Ohio to the United States.
McArthur was a notable soldier, attaining the rank of brigadier general during the War of 1812.
During 1792, McArthur was employed as a surveyor in the Scioto Valley, travelling as far north as Chillicothe.
