 Dauphin Bio
He was a prominent advocate for the formation of the county of Dauphin, and under the Constitution of 1790 was commissioned by Governor Mifflin one of the associate judges of the courts, Aug. 17, 1791.
He was elected sheriff of the county of Dauphin in 1794, serving from the 19th of November, that year, until Oct. 17, 1797.
He was commissioned deputy attorney-general for the county of Dauphin, Jan. 13, 1809, serving until 1812, and represented Dauphin County in the Legislature from 1812 to 1814.

In 1707, the French renamed the island in honor of the heir to the French throne: "Dauphin." During this period the island was capitol of the Louisiana Territory which equaled almost two thirds of the United States!
Finally, in 1813 the United States seized the territory around Mobile Bay.The British captured Dauphin Island and used it as a proposed campaign against the city of Mobile.
Following the Civil War, a bill was introduced in Congress calling for the establishmentof a U.S. Naval Academy on Dauphin Island, but was defeated.

The name continued, as in Viennois, as a patronymic, and was not used as a title until 1281, when Robert II., count of Clermont, in his will, styles himself for the first time Dauphin of Auvergne (Alvern-le delphinus) for the portion of the county of Auvergne left to his house.
In 1349 Humbert II., the last of his race, sold Dauphin to Charles of Valois, who, when he became king of France in 1364, transferred it to his eldest son.

The Island was captured by the British in 1766 only to be seized by the Spanish in 1780 while the British were busy with the Revolutionary War.
American forces captured the island in 1813 to prevent the British from using it in the War of 1812 (1812-1814).
Isle Dauphine, or Massacre Isle, as it was first called by the French due to the piles of human bones they found on its shores, became the first capital of the French Louisiana Territory in 1700.
