Green Party of Canada - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An emphasis on a green tax shift which favoured reducing income and corporate taxes while increasing taxes on polluters and energy consumers created questions as to whether the Green Party was still on the left of the political spectrum, or was taking a more eco-capitalist approach.
Alliance members joined the PC party to vote for the merger into the Conservative Party of Canada in late 2003, just before the 2004 election.
He was first elected to the office with over 80% of the vote and the support of the leaders of all of the provincial parties.

 Canadian Alliance splits
In last November's election, the Liberals successfully used the Alliance as a right-wing foil, pointing to Day's reactionary fundamentalist views and the Alliance's advocacy of a two-tier health care system, the better to obscure their own right-wing, corporate agenda.
In an unprecedented action, a former head of Canada's Supreme Court, Antonio Lamer, said “yelping” Alliance politicians are in desperate need of a “crash course in constitutional law.”
Invariably, press commentators will seize on the Alliance's leadership crisis to argue that Canada's political system is returning to its traditional pattern: although months, if not years of squabbling lie ahead, a “moderate party” of the right will ultimately emerge, assure the press pundits, out of a reconciliation between the Alliance and the Conservatives.

DIRELAND: DEMOCRATS IN DENIAL, GAYS ON THE ROPES
As to the assertion that “progressives drive the party now,” the election of the Mormon abortion foe and corporate-coddling lobbyists’ darling Harry Reid (who also opposes marriage equality for gays) as the party’s Senate leader--and thus its most public face for the next four years--is only the latest refutation of such unwarranted optimism.
We also elected a moderate Democrat for governor, a Democratic majority in the state senate (some of whom are true progressives), and maybe (pending the outcome of a recount) a Democratic majority in the House, which boasts at least one openly lesbian member.
Some right-wing Democrats, like commentator Chris Matthews, are even positing a religious test for the Democrats' next nominee, asserting (as Matthews did on his MSNBC cablecast) that "only a Southern Baptist" has even a prayer of defeating the Republicans and winning the White House.

 Argentine Civil-Military Relations
Although the constitutional regime survived the 1920s and Irigoyen was reelected in 1928 to succeed his lieutenant Alvear, the construct of the Argentine Army officer corps--corporate, increasingly self-aware, politicized, and discontent with political assaults on estado militar --was inclined toward political action, indeed overt intervention.
The first era, from the declaration of separation from Spain in 1810 to the end of the War of the Triple Alliance in 1870, was one characterized by intermittent civil war, a period in which Argentina's national identity, let alone its sense of political community, was unclear.
But if the form of government outlined by the Founding Fathers in Philadelphia was the model, many of its most important precepts, particularly those enshrining separation of powers and compromise and consent as its basis, were vitiated by provisions of the Argentine Constitution of 1853.
