Topic: Coalition

 Encyclopedia: New Deal Coalition
The New Deal coalition was a diverse collection of groups of voters who supported the United States Democratic Party from 1932 until approximately 1964, and which made the Democratic Party the majority party during that time.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt was able to forge a coalition of labor unions, liberals, African Americans, and southern whites.
These disparate voting blocs together formed a majority of voters and handed the Democratic Party seven victories out of nine presidential elections, as well as control of both houses of Congress during much of this time.

After the stated aim of the National Convention to export revolution, the guillotining of Louis XVI of France (January 1793) and the French opening of the Scheldt, a military coalition formed comprising:
North of the Alps Archduke Charles of Austria redressed the situation in 1796, but Napoleon Bonaparte carried all before him against Sardinia and Austria in Italy (1796 - 1797), culminating in the peace of Leoben and the Treaty of Campo Formio (October 1797).
