Canadian and American politics compared - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There are four political parties with seats in the Canadian House of Commons, and two in the US Congress.
In Canada the sub-units are known as provinces and territories; in the United States they are known as states and territories (United States territories include Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and a number of "insular areas" in the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean).
However, one of the most important changes in American politics over the last 40 years has been the switch in allegiance of many Southern white voters from the Democrats to the Republicans.
