The World Factbook - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The factbook often highlights diplomatic disputes that are recognized by the United States but yet ignores or downplays disputes that are not favored by the government's foreign policies.
Besides the World Factbook, the CIA puts out a directory of Chiefs of State and Cabinet Members of Foreign Governments each week.
The factbook contains many peculiarities resulting from the diplomatic policies of the United States and does not always take a neutral point of view.

 The CIA World Factbook
The CIA, acting on behalf of the United States government, was heavily involved in the ousting of the above-mentioned "three-year-old Marxist government" which, at the time, was led by democratically elected Salvador Allende [3].
A three-year-old Marxist government was overthrown in 1973 by a dictatorial military regime led by Augusto Pinochet, who ruled until a freely elected president was installed in 1990.
It is this sort of vision, perhaps, that would lead a politician to continue to support the embargo on Cuba.

Vatican City, created in 1929 to administer properties belonging to the Holy See in Rome, is recognized under international law as a sovereign state, but it does not send or receive diplomatic representatives.
Why is the spelling of proper names such as rulers, presidents, and prime ministers in The World Factbook different than their spelling in my country?
US Federal agencies are required by the Metric Conversion Act of 1975 (Public Law 94-168) and by Executive Order 12770 of July 1991 to use the International System of Units, commonly referred to as the metric system or SI.

 CIA World Factbook Web Review
Finally, since the CIA is based here in the United States, I would have enjoyed a breakdown of all 50 states somewhere on their page, but this was not so.
Users may choose between regions such as North and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and Oceania, Antarctica, Africa, or just the World in general.
This proves especially useful when looking for statistics on little known lands such as Kazakstan.

One important caution: the proportion of, say, defense expenditures as a percentage of GDP in local currency accounts may differ substantially from the proportion when GDP accounts are expressed in PPP terms, as, for example, when an observer tries to estimate the dollar level of Russian or Japanese military expenditures.
