The House of Lords is also the final court of appeal within the United Kingdom, although in practice only a small subset of the House of Lords, known as the Law Lords, hear judicial cases.
The constitution is largely unwritten, being made up of constitutional conventions, and various elements of statutory law and common law which are collectively referred to as British constitutional law.
In practical terms, the political head of the country is the Prime Minister (currently Anthony C. (Tony) Blair since May 2, 1997), who must have the support of the House of Commons.

British Columbia -> History and Politics on Encyclopedia.com 2002
In 1866, Vancouver Island and British Columbia were merged, and in 1871 the united British Columbia, lured by promises of financial aid and the building of a transcontinental railroad that would link it to the rest of Canada, voted to join the new Canadian confederation.
British Columbia sends 6 senators and 32 representatives to the national parliament.
This fastest growing of Canada's provinces increased its national political clout in 1995 when it was given its own veto power over constitutional amendments rather than being subsumed under the western regional vote.

 Guyanese Politics
The colony of British Guiana had been formed in 1831 when the former separate Dutch colonies of Demerara, Essequibo and Berbice were finally united into one entity governed from Georgetown, the former Dutch city of Stabroek.
A British Government White Paper, published on 20 October, attempted to make the case for the suspension of the constitution, but the case was remarkably weak (for details see British Guiana, Chapter 7).
Henceforth British Guiana would continue to be associated with Cuba in the thinking of United States officials and politicians.

All four of these aspects were severely shaken during the affair and Tony Blair is facing the biggest challenge of his political career.
Had it not been for his successor’s sudden death, Tony Blair might not have grabbed the leadership as early as he did and British politics might have looked distinctly different today.
This is not entirely new but the assumptions I have made about Blair and his likeness to Clinton needed some adjustment.

Political science - ArtPolitic Encyclopedia of Politics : Information Portal
Accordingly, political scientists often study trade unions, corporations, churches or other forms of collective intelligence that are not "political" in the sense of influencing law or executive decisions - but have structure and process approaching that of government in complexity and interconnection.
In the United States, political scientists look at a variety of data including elections, public opinion (on matters ranging from Social Security reform to foreign policy), institutional roles (how the U.S. Congress acts, where congressional power gravitates, how and when the Supreme Court acts, or does not act, etc.).
The complex interplay of economic and political choices is reflected in the field of political economy, where economics and political science overlap.

The consolidation of British rule after the initial military victories fell to Warren Hastings, who did much to dispense with the fiction that the Mughal Emperor was still the sovereign to whom the Company was responsible.
