 Struggle for Seccession from the Az.SSR
On February 20, 1988 the session of the Nagorno Karabagh Oblsast Soviet of People’s Deputies resolved to appeal to the Supreme Soviets of Azerbaijan and Armenian SSRs to transfer NKAO from Azerbaijan to Armenia.
Taking into consideration the situation, the Presidium of the USSR Supreme Soviet, with the decree of January 15 1990, introduces extraordinary situation in NKAO, bordering regions of Azerbaijani SSR, Goris region of Armenian SSR and along the USSR state border on the territory of Azerbaijani SSR.
This appeal was preceded by analogous decisions of regional Soviets.

The political status of the Armenian Catholics was regularized in 1831 by the sultan, who established a Catholic millet in the Ottoman empire.
At the time the catholicosate of the Armenians was returned to Echmiadzin in 1441 the tradition of electing a "catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia" continued, as did the tradition of electing a catholicos of Aghtamar (until 1915) with regional jurisdictions.
Echmiadzin became the holy see of the catholicos and supreme patriarch of all Armenians.

On 30 August 1991 the Supreme Soviet of the SSR of Azerbaijan proclaimed the restoration of the national independence of 1918-1920, thereby initiating the process of secession of the SSR of Azerbaijan from the USSR.
Children have the right to be recognized by their parents and to reside with them except in those cases, established by Armenian law, where living separately from the parents or parent is considered necessary in the child's interests.
The decision was based on universally accepted principles of self-determination of nations and responded to the lawful aspiration to reunification of two forcibly separated parts of the Armenian people.

July 13 – The Presidium of the Supreme Council of AzSSR adopted a resolution with respect of the Motion of the Council of People’s Deputies of MKAO on passing MKAO from Azerbaijan SSR to Armenian SSR.
The resolution was adopted without the participation of the people’s deputies from ASSR, MKAO who had left the session of the Supreme Council of the USSR as a sign of protest.

Fifty years ago Stalin signed a decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR on the deportation of the Azerbaijanis who lived in the Armenian SSR.
Unfortunately, the deportation of the Azeris from the Armenian SSR has not been thoroughly investigated and analyzed from the political and legal standpoint.
