Politics of the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Whig Party straddled the issue and sank to its death; it was replaced in 1854 by the Republican Party, whose primary policy was that slavery be excluded from all the territories.
United States politics is dominated by the two major parties, the Republican Party and the Democratic Party.
Jackson's presidency split the Republican party: Jacksonians became the "Democratic-Republicans" and those following the leadership of John Quincy Adams became the "National Republicans." The Democratic-Republicans quickly shortened their name to the Democratic party, and the two-party system, still in existence today, was born.

The Politics of Dissents and Concurrences on the U.S. Supreme Court
The Democratic Party held a majority of the seats in the House of Representatives from 1952 to 1994.
On the basis of historical analyses of U.S. politics, we hypothesize that greater racial diversity is associated with lower levels of voter mobilization, weaker mobilizing institutions, and higher barriers to voter participation.

 Ballot Access News
This is the bill that lowers the statewide minor party and independent candidate petitions to one-half of 1% of the last gubernatorial vote (approximately 17,500 signatures).
The bill does lower the number of signatures needed for a statewide independent from 2% of the number of registered voters to 2% of the last gubernatorial vote, but this is required by a court decision last year anyway.
On August 12, the Alaska Supreme Court ruled that if parties desire to have a blanket primary in conjunction with certain other parties, they may do so, notwithstanding state election law.

The Democratic Party very early associates itself with the growing civil rights movements and will champion the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act.
Affirmative Action, the use of racial quotas to "balance" the workforce, to one degree or another, becomes an issue of political disagreement with Democrats favoring it and Republicans opposing it.
Fueled by the increasingly "liberal" social agenda of the Democrats and spurred on by the rise of a militant and extremely well-organized Evangelical Christianity, most southern states begin voting Republican in considerable majorities.

 History of American political parties
The Federalist party was composed of those who favored much concentration of power in the national government; the Republican or Democratic party favored State sovereignty and the diffusion of power among the people.
THE discussions concerning the national Constitution had party spirit in the new republic which speedily assumed definite forms and titles, first as Federalist and Anti-Federalist, and then as Federalist and Republican.
In December following, our government sent Thomas Pinckney as American ambassador to England; and so a good understanding between the lately belligerent governments was established.

A final stipulation and order has been filed in the lawsuit brought by the Brennan Justice Center on behalf of a number of the minor parties who, according to the New York State Board of Elections, lost both their automatic ballot access as well as their ability to register voters under their name.
As you may know, the New York State Board of Elections continues to challenge the original decision regarding the loss of legal status of the parties that failed to receive at least 50,000 votes in the last gubernatorial election.
Our thanks again to our able counsel, Herb Rubin, and to all the people at the Brennan Justice Center, especially Jeremy Creelan, who have made this possible!

Blogs Making Baby Steps in German Politics Election 2005 Deutsche Welle
While American political parties have already refined how to use Weblogs to their advantage in motivating voters to get involved in campaigning, it's a skill Germany's top-down parties have yet to pick up on, said Michael Essbach of the Weblog Küchenkabinett (Kitchen Cabinet).
Carsten Dobschat didn't intend for his private Weblog, or blog, to be dedicated to the political realm.
Though Germany is home to an estimated 50,000 blogs, most of them deal with political topics as a result of the decision to call early elections.

 The Constitutionalist Party
But the federal government today has drifted from the provisions of the Constitution.
In order to further protect the people from possible federal violations of their freedom, the first act of the new Congress was to pass the first ten Amendments to the Constitution, making the Bill of Rights the cornerstone of American liberty.
Therefore, the Constitutionalist Party seeks to improve America and preserve the freedom of the people by supporting a closer adherence to the Constitution as well as promoting ideas and policies that will realistically improve the state of human liberty in the United States.
