Congressman Bud Shuster wrote the number of I-99 into law with the National Highway Designation Act of 1995, shunning arguments that a three digit number such as I-980 would be more appropriate and would avoid insequential numbering.
Located east of Interstate 79 and west of Interstate 81, Interstate 99 is the bane of many road enthusiasts who treasure an orderly and sequential numbering system for Interstate highways.
I-99 is also known as the (Congressman) Bud Shuster Byway, or as the Appalachian Thruway.

South Island suffers if MPs cut, say Greens - Green Party

A referendum is to be held during the general election about whether to reduce the size of parliament from the present 120 seats to 99.
This is because the number of electorate MPs rises according to a formula based on the ratio of the number of people living in the North Island compared to the number in the South Island and the number of list seats is reduced to compensate for the number of extra constituency seats.
Already, because of the population growth in the North Island, at this year's election there are two more constituency seats than for the last election, and two fewer list seats.

Rod says Labour would lose all list MPs under 99 seat parliament - Green Party

Green Party Co-Leader Rod Donald says he hopes the public is open to persuasion on the size of parliament since last year's indicative referendum overwhelmingly voted to cut the number of MPs from 120 to 99.
This is because with 38.7% of the vote Labour's total seat entitlement would have been 41 - the exact number of constituency seats it won.
ACT, the Alliance and the Green Party would all lose 2 MPs each: Penny Webster and Gerry Eckhoff; Willie Jackson and Kevin Campbell; Keith Locke and Sue Kedgley.

The Citizens Initiated Referendum petition in respect of this was supported by 292,000 registered voters, the largest number ever for such a petition.
The self-interest of the political parties in Parliament determined this outcome because the greater the number of MPs the greater is the amount they can demand to fund their parliamentary activities; taxpayer funded expenditure, the detail of which is kept from the public gaze by not being subject to the Official Information Act.

Comptons 99 includes a word processor for cutting and pasting pertinent text to be used in studies and reports.
Comptons 99 Encyclopedia Deluxe did not fare well with our three kids research trial questions, answering only one of them completely, giving incomplete information on a second, and failing with the third.
Comptons 99 gave a detailed answer to our middle schoolers science question ("What is the difference between mitosis and meiosis?"), addressing each of the two methods of reproduction in admirable detail.

Experimental Courses (99's)

Experimental courses, numbered "99", are developed as a way to try out a new course, or to offer a new course quickly.
Courses with a "real" number (any number other than 99) need to go through the district process which can take up to four months for final approval; experimental courses can be approved in two months.
If your discipline has had more than one 99 course, a letter or letters will be added to the course number (99A, 99B, etc.) to differentiate them.
