 Opinion 96-059
It is evident, therefore, that in the context of the election of a successor to the office of municipal court judge, the "first general election for the office which is vacant" is the first general election at which a municipal court judge may be elected, as determined by Ohio Const.
At the general election to be held on November 2, 1993, the electors of District 1 shall elect an additional judge to serve the unexpired term created by the resignation of Judge Donnellon.
The board of elections refused to place that person's name on the ballot, arguing that because the term of office of county auditor was four years and the last election for that position had been held in 1930, a successor to that office could not be elected until the 1934 general election.

A Concise Encyclopedia of the European Union --M--
As prime minister from 1990 to 1997, John Major entered the scene as a pro-European, bent on being at the heart of Europe, in contrast to his predecessor Margaret Thatcher.
For a brief period in 1972 and 1973 he was president of the Commission, the only Dutchman to have held that post.
The public throughout Europe was baffled, and the unemployment that ensued in the mid to late 1990s did nothing to endear voters to a Treaty that they mistrusted and suspected of being at least partly responsible (through its strict monetary prescriptions) for the recession.

At the general election which preceded Sir Ron’s eagerly awaited report, we urged that major commitments be made to ensure that the system upon which Dearing reports is still viable and is underpinned by values central to its well-being.
The AUT argued in the run-up to the 1997 general election that the functions of universities cannot be delivered, effectively and with quality, on scant and diminishing unit funding.

Declining voter turnout is not confined to national elections.
Amongst Scottish electors, for example, in the 1997 general election 60 per cent of 18 to 24 year olds voted, amongst the 60 to 64 grouping 90 (Scottish Election Survey quoted Paterson et al, 2001).
