Reading Iberia Conference: Birmingham, July 5-6 2003
Beginning with The Western Canon, published in 1994, Bloom has paid increasing attention to some individual Portuguese authors, to the point where he presently champions the 1998 Nobel Prize winning novelist José Saramago as the only living author worthy of being ranked with the critic's original twenty-six all- time greats of Western literature.
However, the literature written in euskera (which itself is going through a mini-boom) is condemned to being taught in its translated version within Hispanic Studies departments.
This paper starts from the observation that despite being a crucial period in the formation of modern Iberian identities, the complex, innovative, bilingual years from c1887 to 1916 are largely missing from histories of Galician literature.

 Environmental Sociology
An important development of this subdiscipline was the shift from a "sociology of environment" to an "environmental sociology." While the former refers to the study of environmental issues through the lens of traditional sociology, the latter encompasses the societal-environmental relations (Dunlap and Catton, 1979; Dunlap and Catton, 1994).
Besides the breadth of sociological literature on sustainable development, this is still a contested concept within sociology.
Environmental sociology has existed for approximately twenty-five years as a subdiscipline in the United States.

MONA FIXDAL, Department of Political Science, University of Oslo, and DAN SMITH, International Peace Research Institute, Oslo, "Humanitarian Intervention and Just War," Mershon International Studies Review (1998) 42, 283-312
The quantity of international relations literature in the 1990s on humanitarian intervention-that is, intervention into armed conflicts for humanitarian purposes with a range of means including armed force--shows that the field has responded quickly to the need to shift focus in the post-Cold War era.
The purpose of this review essay is to show that the Just War framework is able to encompass most of the main arguments in the current humanitarian intervention literature and, thus, that the debate on humanitarian intervention would benefit from more explicit use of this framework.
Consider the widespread unhappiness with, and outright condemnation of; the French intervention in Rwanda in 1994 because it was seen as motivated not by humanitarian concerns but by a continued desire to play the great power game in Central Africa.

TRANS Nr. 0: H. Arlt: Project: Austrian Literary History
In this phase of the discussions on Austrian Literature, which was connected to some extent with new research findings in cultural studies and with a wide-ranging process of internationalisation, the founding of the "Institute for Research and Promotion of Austrian and International Literary Processes" in November 1994 represented an attempt to establish a broad cooperation.
For these reasons it was undoubtedly important and profitable to first approach the problematic of describing an Austrian literature in the seventies and eighties through critical studies of the history of scholarship, partially new discoveries, building of archives, bilateral symposia etc. (5).
Even the studies, conferences on Soyfer(3), which for many were the starting point among other things for reflections and concepts on Austrian literature, show that an explicit engagement with Austrian literature is linked to discussions of basic questions which are being carried on in literary studies.
